Welcome to the Women's Center at Western Plains Medical Center

The birth of a child is one of the most important events a family can experience, so we are very glad that you want to get to know us. We welcome more 700 babies a year at the Women's Center. Our staff has an average of 10 years experience each in tending to patients in labor and delivery. Their experience, caring and concern has kept them doing a job that they love.

Featured Services
At the Women's Center we have four
Labor and Delivery suites, which were designed to create a family atmosphere in a hospital sitting. After the mother has delivered we will transfer her to one of our 6 mother/baby suites.

Each of these rooms are private and includes a loveseat and recliner. There are instances where our patients require a c-section or other surgeries. We have two operating rooms in our center. We want you to know that the baby can stay in the room with the new mother around the clock but if the mother ever needs a break we can care for your baby in the nursery.

We are considered a Level II nursery. While we can care for a great many concerns that can arise after the birth of your child, please know that if your doctor feels it necessary, we have the capability to stabilize and transfer your child to a Level III Center.

Expert Care for Mother and Baby
All of our registered nurses and licensed practicing nurses are certified in fetal monitoring and neonatal resuscitation. In all of our labor and delivery rooms, you will see large, flat screens that resemble computer screens. These screens are actually fetal monitoring screens that allow our nurses and doctors to see how each patient is doing regardless of what room they are in. We feel this is an important part of helping our patients feel confident with the level of care they receive at the Women's Center.

Breastfeeding
Our nursing staff introduces the new mother to the natural process of breastfeeding. We have a Lactation consultant available if the new mother may need assistance. A support group provides ongoing information. Our staff is also there to provide you information about cord care, caring for a circumcision and other topics new parents may need.

Visitation
We have an open visitation policy. We ask that your family members and visitors come to see you between 7am and 9pm. The doors are locked after 9pm and we only allow family after that time. We want our new parents to feel secure that their baby is safe.

When you visit the Women's Center you will see a number of video cameras throughout the department. These cameras monitor the entire unit. Also all of the exits have alarms that are activated if someone exits the building.

We are proud of what we do in the Women's Center. We believe in giving our patients and their families the personal care and attention they deserve.

The Director of the Women's Center is Traci Hoopingarner RNC. For more information about our department please contact us at (620) 225-8472.
